Climate change is undoubtedly one of the greatest problems we face today. Together, as one planet, we need to cut carbon emissions dramatically. The Cut your Carbon campaign is aiming to engage as many people in the East of England as possible and make it easy for them to take effective action and reduce their carbon emissions.
We understand that climate change is a complex issue. We are not attempting here to provide all the scientific facts – rather to highlight what we can all do to make a difference now. If you’d like to learn more about climate change, we’ve provided some links to authoritative sources in our Further Information section.
Locally, the East of England is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change as it is the flattest, driest region in the UK. The impact of drier summers, reduced water resources, population growth and increased sea-level rises all threaten the region. Cut your Carbon is looking to help mitigate these impacts by providing people in the region with the knowledge, support and funding to put in place community activities that will cut carbon emissions.
As a general rule, we know that almost half of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions actually come from energy we use every day - at home and when we travel. The challenge here is to try and provide the means for people to make their own informed decisions on what they as individuals, or as part of a group, can do to reduce their carbon footprints.
When considering what actions we can take, such as installing insulation, using energy efficiency appliances and light bulbs, travelling less by car and plane, and reducing, reusing and recycling waste, Cut your Carbon wants to bring together communities and groups of people, so multiplying the positive impacts.
